Launch your career in Human Resources! The unique Business - Human Resources program immerses you in studies related to the profession. Students complete the program by participating in a full semester, 3 day per week placement, where they are mentored by a seasoned HR Professional and work in a fully functioning HR Department. Interested in pursuing your CHRP designation? All nine required courses are included in the Program and have been approved by the HRPA.

Program Highlights
Your studies will allow you to develop skills as a Human Resources Specialist where you can work across a number of diverse areas or specialize in an area that you are passionate about including:
- talent management including recruitment, interviewing and hiring of new staff
- onboarding, training, development & succession planning of team members
- enhancing employee engagement, inclusion, diversity and positive labour relations
- supporting the overall health, safety, and well-being of associates
- managing compensation plans & benefits administration
- data entry and analysis using a Human Resources Information System (HRIS)

- hands-on, industry-specific simulations that equip students with real world HR experiences including:
- access to HR Live’s HRIS, courtesy of our industry partner Savino Human Resources Partners https://www.savinohrp.ca/ , preparing you for the digital aspect of Human Resources
- exploration of ATS, Applicant Tracking Systems, conducting employment interviews and a simulation that includes the steps to select a candidate,
- developing and delivering a training program for a corporate environment,
- managing a workplace injury and return to work claim
- completing job analysis & formulating job descriptions
- collective bargaining negotiations
- creating a compensation plan including preparing a job evaluation system and determining pay rates
- networking opportunities with HR Professionals. The program has a well-established partnership with the Peterborough Chapter of the HRPA which offers student centered events periodically throughout the year. Students are encouraged to join the HRPA to access resources and opportunities to connect with mentors who have extensive experience in the discipline
- students commencing studies in January fast-track to graduation by attending classes over the summer and complete the program in four consecutive semesters.
- School of Business and Information Technology programs feature a common first semester providing the opportunity for students to seamlessly move to a different program specialty.
- an articulation agreement with Trent University whereby graduates of Fleming’s two-year Business – Human Resources program, with a minimum overall program average of 75%, can be provided 3rd year standing into Trent’s Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) with the option to pursue a Specialization in Human Resource Management.

Work Experience
Human Resources services are required in most enterprises. Your studies will give you the skills and experiences necessary to enter this growing profession. You could be working in a variety of organizations - from small start-ups to large multi-national corporations - or in a government or not-for-profit setting.
As a Business - Human Resources graduate there are plenty of entry - level opportunities such as:
- human resources assistant, administrator, or consultant
- recruiter or talent acquisition assistant
- onboarding and staff training co-ordinator
- employee experience co-ordinator
- health and safety co-ordinator

Minimum Admission Requirements
Students applying to Business - Human Resources must meet the following requirements:
- OSSD including Gr 12 C English and Gr 11 C Math
OSSD with majority of courses at College (C ) or Open (O) unless otherwise stated.
Grade 12 C courses will be accepted where Gr 11 C course requirements are listed.
Where College level courses are listed, U and M courses will be accepted.
Recommended (but not required for admission)
- Gr 12 C Math
Other program requirements:
- Students are encouraged to join the Peterborough Chapter of the HRPA. This experience provides valuable networking opportunities for mentorships and future employment.
Mature Students
If you are 19 years of age or older before classes start, and you do not possess an OSSD, you can write the Skillsmarker to assess your eligibility for admission. Additional testing or academic upgrading may be necessary to meet specific course requirements for this program.
