Indigenous Perspectives Designation

Students that have earned the Indigenous Perspectives Designation (IPD) were celebrated in an Indigenous centred and led ceremony on Friday, July 9 at 1 p.m. This ceremony is available for viewing by clicking video on the right.
The IPD graduates have a strong foundational basis in Indigenous studies, more in-depth knowledge of Indigenous issues and contributions specific to their career choices and a designation that will be in demand as they start their careers.

Holly Lauryssen, The Governor Generals Academic Medal Winner/Collegiate Bronze Medal.

Congratulations to Holly Lauryssen, The Governor Generals Academic Medal Winner/Collegiate Bronze Medal. This major award and significant accomplishment means the Holly has achieved the highest over-all academic average of graduating diploma students from the Frost Campus of Fleming College for the June 24, 2021 graduation ceremonies.

I am very honoured to receive this award and want to thank all my friends and family who supported me throughout my time at Fleming. Despite not being able to interact in-person with my instructors and the other students in my cohort as much as I would have liked, my time at Fleming College was still very rewarding. Thank you to all of the EMT instructors, you have inspired me and taught me so much."

Declaration that Acknowledges the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Indigenous Student Services at Fleming College is pleased to once again offer graduating students an opportunity to sign a declaration that acknowledges the rights of Indigenous peoples.

The declaration states, “By signing, I am making a declaration to move forward in my professional and personal life as a person who acknowledges the rights of Indigenous peoples and will advocate for further respect towards First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples within the territory that I choose to call home.”

In the past students who signed the declaration during convocation ceremonies were given a medicine wheel pin to wear on their gowns. The first year offered, graduating students at Sutherland and Frost campuses were given this opportunity, and nearly 900 students signed the declaration between the two campuses.

This year due to COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions, we are offering graduating students from Sutherland, Frost, Haliburton and Cobourg campuses an opportunity to virtually sign the declaration here. #FlemingGrad
