The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program is designed to provide you with the core knowledge, skills and abilities that are fundamental to academic success in health sciences and other related programs at the advanced diploma or degree level. Develop your knowledge and skills in writing and research, mathematics, human anatomy, biology, and organic/inorganic chemistry to be well-prepared for the rigors of your next academic program.

You will have access to extensive hands-on, laboratory-based learning experiences in preparation for post-secondary level science programs. You will also have the opportunity to learn about potential careers in the fields of science and health science and identify the post-secondary programs that can help you reach your goals. This is a two-semester certificate-level program leading to an Ontario College Certificate.

Successful completion of this Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program provides the essential courses to meet admission requirements for the Trent/Fleming Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Please note: admission to the B.Sc.N. program is competitive. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the B.Sc.N. program.

Graduates of the program can pursue the Queen's University  Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree (Honours). Graduates with a 3.0 GPA are eligible, and will be awarded 12 credit hours, which is equivalent to nearly one semester of credit.

Eligible graduates can transfer 3.5 credits toward Trent University's Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours Degree programs. Graduates with a cumulative program average of 75% will be considered for recognition of transfer credits.

Graduates may also meet admission criteria for programs at other universities.

Students interested in applying to other B.Sc.N. or B.Sc. programs are advised to consult with the admission office at the specific institution they are interested in for more information. For additional details, contact the Pre-Health Sciences program coordinator.

Successful completion of the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program enables you to apply for admission for Fleming College programs such as:

Fleming College has reserved spaces in the programs listed above for qualified graduates of the Pre-health program.  For consideration, graduates must have achieved an average of 70% or higher over the duration of the program. Students must also meet minimum grade requirements for the program of application (see program pages for details). Students applying to the Respiratory Therapy program must have a Physics credit (minimum grade of 65%).  Pre-health students can choose to take Physics during the program.

Graduates may also be eligible for admission to similar programs at other Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology.

Students interested in applying to Fleming's Practical Nursing or Paramedic program should consider the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas program.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program may be a good fit if you:

  • Need to boost your grades or complete key science courses to qualify for your desired college or university program
  • Have been out of school for a while and want to refresh your skills before returning to the classroom
  • Want a strong foundation to increase your chances of success in a competitive health sciences program

Plan to spend at least $700 per year for books and supplies.

  • Analyze biological concepts such as homeostasis and apply them to the study of human anatomy and physiology.

Students applying to Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees must meet the following requirements:

  • OSSD including Gr 12 C English, Gr 11 C Math
