Fleming College Partners with Skills Ontario to Host Skilled Trades Summer Camp for Youth

Peterborough, ON – (August 5, 2026) — Fleming College will host its annual Skills Ontario Summer Camp for students in Grade 7 to 9 from the Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Durham, and Hastings regions. The camp will run August 10 to 14 at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough.

Hosted inside Fleming’s state-of-the-art Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC), the weeklong program delivers immersive, hands-on exploration in construction, plumbing, electrical, welding, arboriculture, fish and wildlife, blasting, heavy equipment, and hairstyling sectors. The camp aims to spark early interest in rewarding trades and technical careers while giving youth the opportunity to start building practical skills using current industry tools and materials. Participants will build take-home items, gaining a practical understanding of design, safety, and craftsmanship under the guidance of Fleming’s facilitators.

On August 11, students will travel to Fleming’s Frost Campus in Lindsay to explore environmental and natural resources sciences through outdoor and hands-on activities.

Another highlight of the week includes a visit from the Skills Ontario Trades & Tech Truck on August 13, a mobile learning unit equipped with interactive simulators and activities.

The experience concludes on August 14 with a parent showcase at Sutherland Campus, where families can tour the learning facilities, view finished projects, and celebrate the skills participants developed throughout the week.

This regional Skills Ontario Summer Camp forms part of a broader province-wide initiative organized by Skills Ontario to introduce youth to essential technical fields and help address growing skilled labor demand across Ontario.
