Before you choose a program and submit your application, there can be a lot to consider. What is college actually like? How does financial aid work? What if you are still in high school and want to experience college first? What if you need to complete or upgrade an admission requirement? 

In this edition of our Webinar Wednesday, we’re revisiting sessions that can help you answer some of those questions and feel more prepared for your next step.

Get to Know Fleming College 

If Fleming College is on your list and you want to learn more about what it’s like to be a student here, start with our Future Students webinar. 

Led by Fleming’s Recruitment team, this session provides an introduction to the college experience, including our programs, campuses, hands-on approach to learning and the services available to support students. It also explores how Fleming connects classroom learning with career preparation through labs, applied research, industry partnerships, placements and other real-world learning opportunities. 

The session also gives future students an overview of the application process and what to expect after receiving an offer, making it a great starting point if you’re beginning to explore your post-secondary options. 

Experience College While You’re Still in High School 

If you’re currently in high school, a Dual Credit course could give you an opportunity to experience college before you graduate. 

Dual Credit allows eligible senior high school students to earn a secondary school credit and a college credit through a single course. Depending on the course, students may experience hands-on labs, practical learning and other college-level activities while becoming more familiar with the college environment. 

It can also be a chance to explore a potential career path, build confidence and get a better idea of whether college is the right next step for you. Eligible students can participate at no cost and should connect with their high school Guidance Counsellor or Student Success team to learn about opportunities available through their school board. 

Need to Upgrade Before You Apply? 

Not quite ready to meet the admission requirements for the program you want? Academic Upgrading could help you get there. 

Fleming’s free, government-funded Academic Upgrading program helps adult learners strengthen their skills, complete admission requirements and prepare for college, employment or apprenticeship opportunities. Learners can upgrade subjects including math, English, biology, chemistry and digital and computer skills. 

Courses are self-paced and can be completed online, in person or through a combination of both, giving learners flexibility to balance their education with work, family and other responsibilities. Academic Upgrading can also help students earn required course equivalencies, refresh their academic skills or work toward an Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate. 

Understand the Admissions Process 

Once you’ve found a program you’re interested in, the next step is understanding how to apply and what happens after you submit your application. 

Our How to Apply, How to Accept & The Admissions Process webinar walks prospective students through the journey from application to enrolment. The session covers applying through Ontario Colleges, reviewing program admission requirements, submitting transcripts and documentation, and understanding important dates throughout the process. 

It also explains what happens when you receive an offer, including the difference between conditional and unconditional offers, how to accept your offer, paying your tuition deposit and completing the remaining requirements before classes begin. 

One of the biggest takeaways? Accepting your offer is only one step in the process. Staying on top of your email, deadlines, outstanding admission conditions, fees and enrolment requirements can help make your transition to Fleming as smooth as possible. 

Explore Your Financial Aid Options 

Wondering how you’ll pay for college? You’re not alone. 

Our Financial Aid webinar explores some of the funding options that may be available to students, including OSAP, scholarships, bursaries and work-study opportunities. It also explains why starting the financial aid process early can make it easier to gather documents, understand your eligibility and stay on top of important deadlines.
