Museum Management and Curatorship grad said his education is ‘exactly what employers are looking for’
Congratulations to Malcolm Cottle, who has been hired as Collections Assistant at the Ruth Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan!
“I can honestly say there is no way I would have had a shot at this job if it weren’t for the Fleming College Museum Management and Curatorship program. You really don’t realize it until you are out in the field how accurate the training is and how well-prepared you are from being a MMC,” said Malcolm.
During his job interview, Malcolm described his Fleming College program and what he learned, including: care of collections, working with artifacts, and cataloguing. Malcolm said Fleming teaches the proper methodology, what it’s like in the field, and how to overcome obstacles.
“The values of being flexible and ability to wear many hats (those are the actual words they used) came up several times in my interviews,” he said. “I couldn’t help but smile as they spoke about that because, well, that’s what I’ve been trained to do! The training and education in the Fleming Museum Management and Curatorship program is exactly what employers are looking for in the field, in education and work ethic.”
The Museum Management and Curatorship post-graduate program is an intensive, fast-paced, immersion experience that provides applied training for careers in the museum, gallery or heritage sectors. Approximately 75% of classes are held at the Peterborough Museum & Archives.
