Last week, we hosted a Webinar Wednesday session focused on academic timetables and course registration at Fleming College. If you couldn’t join us virtually, don’t worry. Below are the highlights from the session, along with the full recording to watch at your convenience.

During the webinar, students connected with Romina Amou Zadeh from Student Recruitment, Laura Wilkes, Records and Completion Coordinator, and Deanna Mokedanz, Records Manager, to learn more about preparing for the upcoming semester. The session covered everything from navigating the academic schedule and accessing your timetable to selecting electives, making timetable changes, requesting transfer credits, and finding important student forms.

Whether you’re starting your first semester at Fleming or returning for another year, understanding these tools and resources can help you feel prepared and confident heading into your studies.

Getting Ready for the Semester

There are a few important steps students should take before classes begin. Fleming’s Academic Schedule is a great place to start. Available through the Fleming College website under Admissions and Aid, the Academic Schedule outlines important dates throughout the year, including tuition and deposit deadlines, the beginning and end of classes, withdrawal dates, orientation and Reading Week.

Students should also become familiar with myCampus. For new students who have never logged in, the “New to Fleming” option can be used to set up your account using your student ID number and date of birth.

Once you’re logged in, your dashboard is an important source of information. This is where you’ll find announcements, pending tasks, payment information and access to your timetable. Students should also check their Fleming email regularly, as this is one of the primary ways the College communicates important information and updates.

Three Key Takeaways

1. Your Timetable is Built for You, But There Are a Few Things to Check

For most programs, Fleming builds your timetable for you. Once it becomes available, you can access it through myCampus. Students are responsible for selecting their required General Education electives and, where applicable, other specific electives.

Before receiving your timetable, make sure you have completed any required steps listed on your account, including your Activity Guide and tuition requirements. Timetable release information and other important updates are posted in the Announcements section of your dashboard.

Once you receive your timetable, take some time to explore it. Check future weeks to make sure you’re seeing your complete weekly schedule, especially when the first week includes a holiday or orientation day. Clicking on individual course blocks will provide additional information, including your instructor and classroom location.

You should also check the top of your timetable for virtual course components and refresh your calendar regularly to make sure you’re viewing the most up-to-date information.

If you already have your timetable, there generally isn’t another registration step for the courses that have been scheduled for you. However, it’s important to review your Academic Advisement Report to see whether you still need to select a General Education elective.

2. Your Academic Advisement Report Helps You Stay on Track

Your Academic Advisement Report is an important tool for understanding your progress within your program. It provides an overview of your academic requirements and helps identify courses or General Education electives you still need to complete.

The report is especially helpful when planning your semester because General Education electives are not necessarily required every semester. Your Academic Advisement Report will show you when these requirements appear within your program.

Students can access their Academic Advisement Report through the Student Centre in myCampus.

Making a habit of reviewing your report can help ensure you understand your outstanding requirements and are on track to complete your program.

3. Add, Drop and Swap Gives You Some Flexibility

While Fleming builds your initial timetable, students have some flexibility to make changes through the add, drop and swap process.

The Office of the Registrar provides video tutorials to walk students through the process. These resources can be found through the Registrar’s Office section of your dashboard and cover timetable changes as well as common error messages.

When swapping courses, availability matters. If another section is full or the change would create a scheduling conflict, you may not be able to complete the swap. Students are also unable to complete a full section swap themselves and should contact their Program Coordinator if they need assistance with this type of change.

Some courses require a different process. Changes involving clinicals, labs or placements cannot be completed through the regular add, drop and swap function. Students should instead use the appropriate electronic course form so the Records team can assist.

Support is also available during the first weeks of classes for students who have reviewed the tutorials but still need help making timetable changes.

What about Transfer Credits?

If you’ve previously attended another post-secondary institution or completed a relevant dual credit, you may be eligible to receive transfer credit toward your Fleming program.

Transfer credit requests can be submitted through the Student Centre once you are a Fleming student. You’ll need to provide information about the course you previously completed, including an official transcript and a course outline or syllabus that identifies the course learning outcomes.

Students are encouraged to submit requests well in advance, ideally at least 15 business days before the beginning of the term and before the add/drop deadline.

Most importantly, remain enrolled in your Fleming course until your transfer credit has officially been approved. Transfer credits must be evaluated and are not guaranteed, so dropping a course before receiving approval could create challenges with your timetable.

Know Where to Find Important Forms

Many common student forms are available electronically through your myCampus dashboard.

Under Student Forms and Electronic Forms, students can find resources such as course drop and course add forms, domestic and international withdrawal forms, transcript request information and upper-semester application forms.

Knowing where these resources are before you need them can make navigating changes throughout your semester much easier.
