Fleming College Teams Up with Local Creatives for ‘Learning Local with the Paynes’ Video Series
PETERBOROUGH, ON – (October 28, 2026) – Fleming College has teamed up with local creatives Mary and Melissa Payne for a new video series that takes viewers behind the scenes of some of the College’s hands-on learning experiences.
In Learning Local with the Paynes, the Ennismore twin sisters try their hand at a variety of hands-on learning experiences across Fleming’s campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, and Haliburton, bringing laughter and curiosity along the way. The series takes viewers beyond the traditional campus tour, following Mary and Melissa as they step into workshops and outdoor learning environments to experience a day in the life of Fleming students, while learning what goes into developing practical skills across a range of programs.
The twins tackle carpentry and renovation, plumbing and electrical engineering at Sutherland Campus in Peterborough and explore fisheries fieldwork, trapping and marsh mapping through the Fish and Wildlife Technician program at Frost Campus in Lindsay. They also put their creativity to the test with mitten making at the Haliburton School of Art + Design.
“We got to try things we’d never done before, and some were definitely easier than others. It was a lot of fun, but we also came away with a new appreciation for the skills students are learning at Fleming and the opportunities available right here in our community,” said Mary and Melissa Payne. “What stood out the most for us was the faculty and how much heart they put into teaching these students and guiding them in their careers. The students can feel that, and so could we.”
Along the way, the Paynes bring their trademark personalities to each new experience, offering viewers an entertaining perspective on the College’s programs and the skills students develop in preparation for their careers.
The collaboration highlights the connection between Fleming and the communities it serves, while showcasing the variety of educational opportunities available close to home.
The full Learning Local with the Paynes series is available on Fleming College’s YouTube channel. Clips from the series will also be shared through the College’s Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook accounts.
