From mitten making to marsh mapping: Learning Local with the Paynes
Local content creators Mary and Melissa Payne have been trying their hand at some new skills lately, and from workshops to wetlands, Fleming College has been their classroom.
The Ennismore twins have teamed up with Fleming for Learning Local with the Paynes, a new video series that takes viewers inside some of the College’s programs and learning spaces, with plenty of laughs along the way.
The series follows Mary and Melissa as they visit Fleming’s campuses and experience some of the hands-on learning that students take part in every day.
At the Haliburton School of Art + Design, they try their hand at mitten making. At Frost Campus, they explore the Fish and Wildlife Technician program, with activities including visiting the fall fisheries field school, trapping and marsh mapping. They also tackle carpentry and renovation, plumbing and electrical engineering at Sutherland Campus, getting a taste of the practical skills students develop in these programs.
Along the way, the Paynes bring their own personalities and sense of humour to each new challenge, offering a fun and sometimes unexpected look at what learning at Fleming can involve.
The videos offer a different perspective on the College’s programs, giving viewers a chance to see the facilities, equipment and learning experiences that prepare students for their careers.
Whether you’re considering college, have a connection to Fleming or are simply curious about what students get up to on campus, Learning Local with the Paynes is worth a watch.
