Ceramics - The Illustrated Surface

Course Code: ARTS2993

This course explores decorated ceramic surfaces using slips, underglazes, and the sgraffito and mishima techniques. Working with wheel-thrown and slab-built forms, you will create vessels and tiles designed to enhance surface imagery inspired by local flora and fauna. Learn step-by-step methods for drawing and transferring images, carving and inlaying designs, and applying underglaze color, finished with a clear glaze. A variety of tools and approaches will allow each student to develop a personal interpretation of these techniques. Ideal for those who enjoy detail and thoughtful planning, this course concludes with finished pieces that reflect both technical skill and individual style.
