Security Guards

Campus Security Guards

Campus Security employs both in-house and contract personnel. Members are uniformed security guards licensed by the Province of Ontario in accordance with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 and its regulations.

  • In-House Security: These members are Fleming College employees and licensed security guards. In-house members have extensive training and experience in general investigations, case management, security planning, mental health awareness and provide a full range of in-house security services and are specially trained to respond and deal with a variety of campus occurrences with sensitivity, discretion and authority while meeting community needs. Members work closely with College partners, municipal police services and other agencies to further create a safe and secure environment for staff, students, faculty and visitors at Fleming College.

Contracted Security: Garda Canada Security Corporation is currently under contract to provide security guards to Fleming College Campus Security. Garda security guards perform a variety of duties and have some or all of the authorities of an in-house security guard.

What authority does a Campus Security Guard have?

  1. Campus Security Guards are authorized agents of Fleming College’s Board of Governors. The College is a publicly accessible institution, however, all campuses of the College are private property and as such access to the College may be restricted by the Board of Governors and/or its agents in order to ensure the safety of the College community and to prevent undesirable behaviour and/or the loss of assets due to theft.
  2. Campus Security Guards are authorized to enforce the Trespass to Property Act, including effecting arrest without warrant on premises.
  3. Campus Security Guards are authorized to effect arrest without warrant for Criminal offences on College property in accordance with section 494 of the Criminal Code.
