Fleming College Partners with TVOkids to Inspire Next Generation of Blasting Professionals

Published

Lindsay, ON – (July 7, 2026) –– Fleming College is excited to showcase its renowned Blasting Techniques program in an upcoming episode of the popular TVOkids educational series, Trading Skills. Filmed on location at the College’s Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ontario, the segment brings national television cameras into the outdoor classroom to inspire and educate the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

The dedicated episode features Bill Smith, Program Coordinator for Fleming’s Blasting Techniques program—the only training program of its kind in Canada—alongside Trading Skills co-host Brody Agmon. Together, they offer young viewers an inside look at the highly specialized world of blasting, demonstrating the significant impact that unique trades in the explosives industry have on everyday life, infrastructure, and the Canadian economy.

“Many people don’t even know this trade exists, so we’re glad to showcase the Frost Campus and plant that seed early for kids,” said Smith. “Our program is perfect for anyone who loves working outdoors and wants a rewarding career. While the industry requires hard work, it is highly specialized—if you’re good at what you do, you will never be out of work. “

Through this collaborative partnership, TVOkids and Fleming College explain skilled trades to youth and demonstrate that these careers are both highly technical and incredibly rewarding. As the demand for skilled trades workers continues to rise in Ontario, Fleming College remains at the forefront of addressing the province’s labour shortage by offering highly sought-after training programs in its state-of-the-art facilities. These include programs delivered in the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus in Peterborough, Ontario and the renowned drilling and blasting programs offered in The Parnham Training Centre at the Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ontario.

“We were thrilled to welcome TVOkids to the Frost Campus and provide a national platform for our Blasting Techniques program,” said Lorie Blundon, Dean, School of Environmental and Natural Resources Sciences at Fleming College. “Opening up our unique outdoor learning spaces to young viewers highlights the power of experiential learning and Fleming’s vital role in training the workforce that builds our communities. We hope this segment inspires children to look closer at specialized technical fields they might not have considered.”

The second season of Trading Skills is currently available for streaming across all TVOkids’ digital platforms, including TVOkids.com. The broadcast premiere of the Fleming College segment is scheduled to air on TVOkids this Sunday, July 12 at 12:10 p.m. and is available to watch now on TVOkids’ YouTube channel.
