SPINNING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM â LEVEL II

Please
check the status of your course before purchasing materials!
There will be a $110. material fee payable to
the class Treasurer (voted) on the first day.
There will be a $50 marking fee payable on
the first day as well.
Reminder: please have your 2026 OHS
membership paid
Student please bring:
- Hand carders, flick carder, dog comb and/or brush
- Spinning
wheel/accessories required for your wheel presentation
- Reminder to bring two printed copies of your
Wheel Assignment presentation for the instructor.
- Drop spindle and/or support spindle
- Light/Dark apron
- Spinning wheel â flyer wheel in good working order
- Lazy Kate, threading
hook, wheel maintenance supplies
- Measuring tape, scissors, yarn gauge or small
ruler
- Small plastic baggies (lots), labels and/or
masking tape, hole punch, clip ring for joining baggies
- Sample cards (approximately 2"x 3") for
winding and recording yarn samples
- Niddy noddy, (small is best: about 1 m/y). Cotton yarn for tying skeins
- A minimum of three
bobbins that work easily on your wheel, with lead cords attached
- Old towels for
washing fibre, a few stackable plastic buckets or colanders if you have them
- Three-ring
notebook, paper, writing materials.
- Reusable mug or
bottle with lid
WORSTED Combing
class â must wear closed shoes. - Wool combs
if you have them.
- Do not purchase for
the class - wait to see what is available and your preference.
- If you already have them, please bring them
with you.
- The more styles available the
better.
- Please email Beth Showalter if you have and will be bringing a
set (or two) of combs with you to class.
DYE EQUIPMENT LIST from Level I
- This Dye Kit will serve you throughout the spinning programme and at
home for assignments.
- CLOSED-TOE SHOES FOR STUDIO DYEING
- Large pot
- 10 to 12 litre, stainless
steel or enamel (check enamel isnât chipped)
- 500 ml
plastic measuring cup
- Plastic or
stainles steel measuring spoons
- Rubber or
plastic gloves (not latex, someone
might be allergic)
- Mask for measuring dye powders and
mordants. Respirator with
cartridges for particulates â new Health & Safety protocol at the
college â a certified tech may test for proper fit.
- Apron or lab coat âplasticized apron,
oilcloth, denim.
- Candy Thermometer âcheck accuracy â
should be at 212o F or 100oC.
- Stir stick â can be glass or steel
spoon, plastic chopsticks
- Buttons or plastic labels for skeins in
dye pots
- Please
bring to the dye studio: 1 yd/metre niddy noddy, baggies & labels,
scissors, notebook, pen
- An old towel or two (for removing excess
water from dyed skeins/fibre)
Level 2 Dyeing â Instructor will bring the
fibre, yarn and natural materials
Optional:
- Ball
winder, camera & books (related topics to share), small weigh scale
(weighing a minimum of 1 gm)
