Indigenous Artistry - Picking Up the Pieces

This course focuses on Indigenous beading techniques, including both dimensional and flat bead embroidery. Learn a range of traditional and contemporary methods using culturally significant materials such as porcupine quill and birch bark. Indigenous teachings and historical context are woven throughout the learning experience, grounding the technical instruction in cultural knowledge. Over the week, create a series of samples to serve as resources for future projects while developing an understanding of Indigenous approaches to embellishing everyday objects. This is an experiential learning opportunity shared through an Indigenous lens, emphasizing process, knowledge sharing, and cultural respect.
