Ceramics - Surface Treatments

Course Code: ARTS2335

Embark on a diverse exploration of surface techniques with a primary focus on cultivating an exciting vocabulary of expressive clay surfaces. This course will cover the creation and incorporation of slip, coloured slips, underglazes, ceramic chalks, stains and oxides. Through playful experimentation using techniques such as brushwork, slip trailing, stencilling, scrafitto and mono printing, you will navigate a distinctive personal journey and generate a multitude of ideas to be translated into your own unique artistic language. New techniques will be applied to paper, small clay test tiles and one small slab vessel. All test pieces will undergo a bisque firing with selected pieces subsequently being completed by a cone 6 glaze firing.
A $15 material fee payable to the instructor will be needed on your first day of class
