Arts Commerce - Websites and Income Streams for Artistic Souls

The instructor will be supplying: some papers, spare glue and scissors, and a whackload of patience and grounded excitement for your website and income stream building journey! 

Materials list: 

 

• Your sketchbook, art journal, or notebook for planning, ideation and creative exercises that we'll do each day. You'll be referring back to this during the week and in future as you iterate your web presence. 
• Your favourite pens or pencil crayons in some different colours - five primaries is good, but the colours are less important. Bring something you enjoy using. 
• Glue stick (UHU brand quality is preferred but others are fine.)  
• Scissors (Short, with a point is preferred. Usually these are smaller scissors which are easier to use, but ordinary scissors that you already have are okay too!) 
• Magazines and random papers in a small variety of colours. (This is primarily to make shapes, but some students wind up doing some mood board work which can be fun but optional.) 
• Your laptop or other device to work on initial website building in class, or after class hours. It can be productive to build your actual website as we go along each day, but if you don't have a portable device to do this, you will be guided to make a detailed plan on paper that can be transferred to a website builder or given to a web designer. We will also be doing online research which can be done on your smartphone. 

• Sample art: If you have items you intend to sell, or would like to work on for your income streams, you are welcome to bring samples of the physical items or have digital versions prepared to share (links to photos or other e-versions are welcome as well.) 

Mandatory Studio Safety Practices 

  

Your health and safety is our priority. Our studio environments can have a number of objects, tools and chemicals that require personal protective equipment (PPE) or other consideration for your well-being. All persons (including faculty, staff and students) are asked to observe the following while in the shops and studios: 
 

• Wear sturdy and appropriate shoes such as sneakers, closed leather shoes or work boots open-toed shoes, flip-flops or high heels are not allowed. 

• No long, dangling clothing or accessories (scarves, flowing sleeves, chains, long necklaces, etc.). 

• Long hair must be tied back. 

• No bare skin if exposure to chemicals or tools/machinery is likely. 

• Appropriate PPE is mandatory when operating tools and equipment within the studios. 

• Please consult with the faculty or studio technician to determine the appropriate PPE required for specific machines and studio processes. 
   

Fit tests are required for courses requiring a respirator as noted on your material list. Arrangements will be made on-site. As these are mandatory safety practices, we will follow up directly with students who may have oversighted the above. Individuals may be asked to address any concerns before continuing to work in the studio. Be sure to buy appropriate, good-quality safety articles and equipment, i.e. safety boots, protective eyewear, hearing protection, work gloves, x-acto knives, etc. - Ask your supplier for advice.
