Transfer Credits
Get Credit for your Previously Completed College/University Course(s)
What is a Transfer Credit?
Transfer credit allows you to receive recognition for courses you’ve completed at a recognized post-secondary institution. If a previously completed course is equivalent to a Fleming course and meets the required minimum grade, you may not need to repeat it—helping you save time and money.
Transfer credit assessment is a free service available to current full-time and part-time students, as well as former students who need credits to meet graduation requirements.
Transfer courses from another institution to Fleming College (receiving courses)
Credit for courses taken at other colleges or universities may be transferable to Fleming. Ontario's Transfer and Pathways Guide allows you to check on the transferability of your courses either to or from Fleming.
Below is a tool to help you check if your course has previously been reviewed at Fleming. Filter by your previous Ontario post-secondary institution to see if your credits may already count.
Search for your course
My course is here
Great! If your course appears in the tool above, it means the course has previously been evaluated for transfer credit at Fleming.
You must still submit a Transfer Credit Request through your Student Portal to have the credit evaluated and applied to your record.
My course isn't here
No problem - many courses have not yet been reviewed. You can still submit a Transfer Credit Request to have your course assessed.
Our team will review your course outline and transcript to determine if it is equivalent to a Fleming course. You will be notified once a decision has been made.
What's Next?
To apply for transfer credit, you must first accept your offer to Fleming College. Access to the Student Portal, where requests are submitted, is only available after you have accepted your offer.
To get started, you will need:
- Official transcript from your previous institution (sent directly from the institution or issued through an approved digital transcript provider)
- Course outline or syllabus for each course you are requesting credit for
- A completed Transfer Credit Request submitted through your Student Portal
How do I apply?
You can submit your Transfer Credit Request through your Student Portal:
- Log into your Student Portal
- Open Student Center
- Click on Self-Service Options
- Select Transfer Credit Request
- Click Add a New Value to submit a new request.
We recommend submitting your request at least 15 business days before the start of the term. Requests submitted later may not be processed before the college's add/drop deadline.
Important: Stay enrolled in your Fleming course and continue attending classes until your transfer credit is officially approved.
How do I check my request status?
You can track your request in your Student Portal:
- Log into your Student Portal
- Go to Student Center
- Click on Self-Service Options
- Go to Transfer Credit Request
- Select Find Existing
- Open the request you would like to view
Select the request you want to view.
- The main page will show the current status (for example, "In Review")
- To see the final decision, open the Comments section
- If additional information is needed (such as an updated transcript), the Transfer Credit Coordinator will note this there
Once your request has been processed, you'll also receive an email notification.
Approved credits will appear in your Transfer Credit Report in your Student Center.
When a transfer credit is approved:
- You won't need to take the equivalent Fleming course
- The course will appear on your transcript with a grade of EX(Exemption)
- EX grades do not affect your GPA
Important deadlines:
Submit your Transfer Credit Request, along with your official transcript and course outline, no later than the end of the registration period. This helps you avoid receiving a "W" (withdrawal) on your transcript.
Until your request is officially approved, you should remain enrolled in the course and continue attending classes.
Who do I contact?

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I find out how many transfer credits I'll receive before enrolling at Fleming?
-
Transfer credit assessments are only processed once you become a Fleming student.
If you would like to see whether a course from another institution has already been reviewed for transfer credit at Fleming, you can use the Transfer Credit Search Tool above. This tool shows previously evaluated course equivalencies, but you must still submit a Transfer Credit Request after you are admitted for the credit to be applied to your record.
- What do I need to submit
-
To request transfer credit, you must submit a Transfer Credit Request through your Student Portal and provide supporting documentation from your previous institution. This typically includes an official transcript confirming successful completion of the course and a course outline or syllabus that describes the course content, learning outcomes, and contact hours. These documents allow the academic area to review the course and determine whether it is equivalent to a Fleming course. In some cases, additional documentation may be requested to complete the assessment.
- How long does a transfer credit assessment take?
-
Transfer credit requests are typically reviewed within approximately 10 business days, depending on the availability of course outlines, official transcripts and the need for academic review by the appropriate school or department. To ensure your request can be reviewed before the add/drop deadline, we recommend submitting your transfer credit request and supporting documents at least 15 business days before the start of the term. Requests submitted later may not be processed before the deadline, so you should remain enrolled in the Fleming course until a final decision has been made.
- If I drop courses after receiving transfer credit and become part-time, what happens?
-
Your ability to progress to the next semester may be affected. Check with your Records Specialist to confirm how many courses you need to maintain full-time status.
- Will dropping a course after receiving transfer credit affect my OSAP funding?
-
It may. Contact the Financial Aid Office to confirm how your course load affects OSAP eligibility.
- Is there a limit to transfer credits?
-
Yes. Fleming requires a minimum residency of 25%, meaning at least 25% of your program courses must be completed at Fleming.
- Can a denied transfer credit be re-evaluated?
-
Yes. If you have additional documentation to support your request, you may request a re-evaluation within 30 calendar days of the original decision by contacting the Transfer Credit Coordinator.
- Do transfer credits expire or have a time limit?
-
In some cases, courses may not be eligible for transfer credit if they are no longer considered current. This is determined during the academic review process based on the subject area and program requirements. As a general guideline, courses completed more than five years ago may not be considered current, although exceptions may apply depending on the course and program.
