Students complete construction of Community Arts Centre

Madoc ON – The hard work is finished and it’s time to celebrate. Students in the Sustainable Building Design and Construction program at Fleming College are celebrating the completion of the Madoc Community Arts Centre.Students in the program, based out of the Haliburton Campus, designed and built the arts centre in 20 weeks, over the course of the certificate program. Built with sustainable and recycled materials the facility uses no fossil fuels and emits no pollution. Solar energy, rain water collection and straw bale walls make this structure one of the most sustainable buildings in Canada.Led by renowned environmental builder and author Chris Magwood, the students spend most of their class time in the program designing and building the facility. The Community Arts Centre, built in partnership with the Municipality of Centre Hastings, is located beside the local skate park and a future splash pad.
