Fleming College Lights It Up! For Disability Awareness

Published

Peterborough, ON – (October 19, 2022) –Fleming College is lighting it up for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

On Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. buildings at all three of Fleming’s campuses along with 17 employment services providers managed by Muskoka-Kawarthas Employment Services (MKES) will be lit in bright-purple and blue lighting during Light It Up! For NDEAM®, an annual event with the Ontario Disability Employment Network. The night celebrates the many contributions those with disabilities make in their workplaces and ignites conversations about disability inclusion in employment.

“Light It Up! For NDEAM® reminds us that we must constantly work toward removing barriers to employment and education for those living with disabilities and demonstrates a commitment to creating a welcoming place for everyone,” said Fleming College President Maureen Adamson. “We encourage businesses and organizations in our campus communities to join us and light it up on October 20.”

Throughout October MKES has planned several employer workshops focused on supporting accessible workplaces. The final workshop on Oct. 20 runs from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., is free to attend and open to everyone. Visit here for more information about the event along with other services from MKES.

Light it Up! For NDEAM® takes place in big cities, small towns, and rural communities across Canada. In addition to lighting buildings in hues of purple and blue in the evening, employees are encouraged to wear those colours to work during the day.
