Fleming College delays start of Winter 2022 semester by one week

Published

Peterborough ON – (December 17, 2021) – As we approach the holiday break, our environment continues to change at breakneck speed. The new Omicron variant has sent COVID case counts soaring, and many familiar restrictions implemented at the onset of the pandemic are being re-introduced. As a proactive measure to ensure the safety of all Fleming students and employees, the College has made some important changes to the Winter 2022 semester. The start of the Winter semester is being delayed by one week, and the semester will begin with online delivery for two weeks.

Winter semester classes will now begin on Monday, January 17, and the weeks of January 17 and January 24 will be delivered fully online. The end of the semester will be extended one week to April 29, 2022.

The College intends to return to campus on Monday, January 31 for hands-on and specialized courses with some continuation of online delivery where appropriate. Students will be notified about specific changes to delivery format through updates from their program area. Fleming hopes not to be online for the entire Winter term, however, that is dependent upon how the pandemic evolves in the coming weeks. More details on changes to course delivery will be shared with the Fleming community in the new year.

New residence students will be permitted to move in beginning January 6 and 7, and students currently living in residence can return on January 9. However, the College is recommending that students consider staying at home until the onsite academic operations resume.

The federal government has advised that Canadians avoid travelling internationally over the holiday season. Fleming is also recommending students and employees avoid international travel to reduce the risk of infection along with any delays, isolation orders or other complications that could arise.

Although health authorities may continue to put measures in place to restrict the spread of the virus, being fully vaccinated, including booster shots, remains one of the key safety precautions for our families, friends and co-workers. Fleming encourages everyone to make an appointment for a vaccine booster as soon as possible.

Wishing everyone in the Fleming community a happy and healthy holiday season!
