Federal Minister of Rural Economic Development Visits Fleming College
Peterborough ON – (October 27, 2022) – The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development, paid a visit to Fleming College’s Sutherland Campus on October 26, 2022, getting an in-depth look at some of the College’s state-of-art training and education facilities.
Minister Hutchings toured the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC), visiting the labs and classrooms used by students studying skilled trades at Fleming.
“When rural and remote communities succeed, Canada succeeds. It’s as simple as that. At the core of any community’s success is a strong, skilled labour force. Programs like those offered at Fleming College are critical to supporting the economic diversification and sustainability of our villages, towns, hamlets and coves—from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Whether we’re addressing labour shortages, housing affordability, or access to reliable high-speed Internet, the Government of Canada remains committed to helping rural and remote communities thrive and achieve long-term growth,” said the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development.
“We are grateful to host Minister Hutchings and showcase just a few of the ways Fleming College is helping create a strong, skilled workforce in our region,” said Fleming College President Maureen Adamson. “Skilled trades workers are key to economic growth in rural communities, and a crucial component of addressing the unique issues these communities face when it comes to housing and infrastructure. We appreciate the Federal Government’s continued commitment to working with institutions like Fleming and the rural regions they serve to build a strong economy.”
Following Minister Hutching’s tour, President Adamson and Fleming faculty and staff presented information about the school’s programs and student experience at Fleming College.
