Scholarships and Bursaries
M. Colleen Shaughnessy worked in Academic Administration at Fleming College for 24 years, in the capacity of Department Chairman and during her final 7 years as Academic Dean of Community Services and Health Sciences.
Colleen also served as a Director on the Board of The Five Counties Children's Center; a Director on the Board of Community Services at the Ontario Hospital in Kingston Ontario; an elected member of the Council of the College of Nurses of Ontario; a Director of Pineridge, Kawartha, Peterborough District Health Council; Chairman of the Planning Committee for Long Term Care at the Local District Health Council; and a Board member with the Fleming College Foundation.
As Chairman of the Diploma Nursing Program at Fleming, she was responsible for the transfer of Nursing programs from Peterborough Civic Hospital and St. Joseph's General Hospital to College. The Practical Nursing program (formerly the Nursing Assistant program) was also transferred by Colleen from Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay to Fleming.
Colleen's family has established this bursary to assist students of the Practical Nursing program in continuing to contribute significantly to the bedside care of patients in a wide variety of health care settings.
Awarded to a domestic female full-time student in the Practical Nursing Program at the Peterborough campus who demonstrates financial need.
* Student must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post-secondary studies.
