Scholarships and Bursaries
Leslie and Laura Groombridge have been influential members of the Peterborough community for many years. Les retired from Outboard Marine Corporation as CEO in February 1987 after 45 years of dedicated service. Les then went to the city of Peterborough as their Director of Planning and Development.
Les was also very active with Sir Sandford Fleming College and the Ontario College System. Les was an external member of the Board of Governors for Fleming from 1980-1985. He continued to work with the College as a founding member of the Friends of Fleming College Foundation (Later renamed Fleming College Foundation) beginning in 1992. He was President of the Foundation Board of Directors from 1996-1999. Les continued his work for the College on the Provincial level as a member of the Council of Regents.
Les and Laura were also active on many clubs and community boards.
This fund was initially established in memory of William George Groombridge, Les and Laura's eldest son who was killed in an automobile accident on August 8, 1970, and their youngest son Douglas Thomas Groombridge who passed away on January 22, 1994, as a result of an accident. In both instances, the cause was severe head injuries.
The fund was also established to receive contributions from the Groombridge family, their friends, and other well-wishers to provide assistance in perpetuity for the purpose described below.
Les Groombridge passed away in May 2011.
Awarded to a domestic full-time student in any program at any campus of Fleming College.
* Student must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post-secondary studies.
