Scholarships and Bursaries
Dr. Brian Desbiens served as President of Sir Sandford Fleming College from 1988 to 2004. He has more than 40 years of experience in the field of education. His areas of expertise included administration, counseling, human relations, and teaching, acquired from several educational institutions including St. Clair College, Michigan State University, and the University of Windsor.
While maintaining a number of national and provincial appointments, Dr. Desbiens has been a constant supporter of his local community as a member of various groups over the years, including the Greater Peterborough Economic Council, the Trent Valley Literacy Association, and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation Board.
Ellen Desbiens has more than 40 years of experience in community health care. She was the manager of the Peterborough Community Access Centre for a number of years. Her nursing experiences include VON nursing, prenatal teaching, and being a case representative. She has served on several boards including Hospice Peterborough and St. Joseph's Hospital Board in Peterborough. When she and Brian lived in Chatham and Windsor they were also active in their church and with community volunteer services. Their greatest gift and priorities are their children and grandchildren.
Brian and Ellen feel it is important that motivated involved individuals have the financial support needed to pursue their educational goals. They feel fortunate to be able to support students each year in a small way.
This fund was established to assist students who "Let the Deed Show". as they are encouraged by the College motto.
Awarded to a domestic full-time returning student, with a GPA of 3.6 or higher, who demonstrates financial need.
* Student must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post-secondary studies.
