Ruth Wickremesooriya

Ruth Wickremesooriya is a multidisciplinary artist creating conceptual pieces and bespoke woven cloth exploring themes of brokenness, hope and transformation. She draws inspiration from broken objects, global cultures of care and repair, and the resilient patterns of regeneration embedded into the natural world. Compelled by a desire to reimagine waste and interrogate ongoing struggles with depression and anxiety, artworks are handwoven using discarded textiles, and inevitable studio waste gathered as raw material for new works. She finds deep metaphorical resonance between this material transformation and the complexities of the human condition; the process itself affirms that we all hold inherent value and feelings of brokenness never have the final word.
