Peter Haastrup

Peter Haastrup ,

I have a Bachelors of Social Work with a minor in Sociology from Ryerson University, and a Master of Social Work, International Child & Family from University of Toledo, Ohio. As a young adult, I migrated to Canada from Nigeria about 12 years ago to further my education and pursue the "Canadian Dream".

My experiences as an immigrant in Canada and the United States of America, as well as my passion for social justice/change, anti-oppressive practice, youth justice, and international community development has led me to work, study, and volunteer in over 7 countries including the Bahamas, Canada, India, Kenya, Portugal, Nigeria, and the USA. These passions, has also led me to pursue a PhD in Policy Studies - Immigration, Settlement, and the Diaspora at Ryerson University, with my research focusing on the Immigration Experiences of International Students in Canada and the Impact of Social Networks on their Acculturation.

I continue to travel across countries, boundaries, time zones, and continents - working in partnerships with communities and organizations to achieve their goals, promote social change, and community development. I am a full-time faculty at Fleming, teaching in both the Child and Youth Care as well as Social Service Worker programs. In addition, I am also a Clinician in a series of Youth Justice facilities.

On my down time, I love anything related to Football (Soccer) - playing, watching, coaching etc, I am also a big music (Gospel) person - I am part of a band, and do some artist management on the side too.
