I am so excited to be part of the CYW program and having the opportunity to work with you. I have been teaching at the college from two years, and everyday am thankful for all the work I have done to get here.
I have grown up here in Peterborough, specifically in East City (close to the Liftlocks) and love living here with my husband and daughter. I graduated from Trent U with a Bachelor of Arts, and am proud to be an Alumni of Fleming, graduating from the Drug & Alcohol Addictions Program. During those years, I worked full time at our local public school board as a Youth Counsellor, as well, part time with Kinark Child & Family Services as a Child & Youth Worker in two of their group homes. While I continued working both of those jobs, I also returned to school part time at York U to complete my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). I completed my placement at Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Aid Society and was hired full time. I worked there for nine years, then moved to Northumberland CAS and worked there for four years. In my last year at NCAS, I decided to return to school and I just graduated in May 2012 with my Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Memorial University in Newfoundland. I completed this degree through distance education over three years, and three of the courses were held in St. John's, so had an incredible experience staying in Newfoundland with classmates for a week each time. I believe I am a Newfoundlander at heart, so have no doubt I will making many trips back.
I love to travel, spend time with my family and friends, and most of all, anything that allows me to be social! After my many years of child welfare, I enjoy the adrenaline rush of life and am thrilled to say that teaching provides this for me also. I love getting into the classroom and sharing my learned experiences with you.
