Course Code: ARTS2691
Sustainable fashion is a movement about reimagining new garments from old clothes. Reduce waste and fufill a creative outlet as a fashion designer. This course builds on the principles of upcycling textiles, whether they are blankets, curtains, tablecloths, jeans and/or any clothing into something new.
Use your imagination, pictures on social media to create pieces of wearable, custom designed attire using basic and some advanced sewing techniques. Produce works of wearable art. Refashion your favourite (too tight) jeans into something more comfortable. During this course, you will incorporate creative machine and hand sewing skills, expressive stitching, stamping, painting, mixed media using paints and embellishments and perhaps surface altering approaches. Combine different fabrics, colours and textures by assembling a variety of materials into exceptional and distinctive designs.
Expect to construct 3 garments or objects from found items. Some sewing experience necessary.
A $20 material fee payable to the instructor will be needed on your first day of class
