Botanical Contact Printmaking Workshop

Course Code: ARTS2683

This course is welcome to all levels. Anyone can take these courses if interested. Beginner-level instruction will be provided for basic skills while more advanced users can work on more complex projects with instructor assistance.
Make marvellous botanical contact prints using plants and a variety of paper. Let your inner forager and artist work together to create beautiful works on paper. After collecting natural materials, you will make Japanese paper (Washi) and traditional Western paper bundles that will be placed in a pot of simmering water transferring colour from the plant material to the paper. Learn about different papers, plants and materials suitable for this technique. Where and how to source materials will be discussed. You are encouraged to bring their own foraged plant materials. A list of suitable plants will be emailed three weeks before the course. Material fees to be determined by the project.
