Students have access to specialized facilities and laboratories for learning how to size, design and install solar photovoltaic, solar thermal and other sustainable energy systems for both grid-connected and off-grid applications.
St. Lawrence College has a 250kW grid-connected rooftop solar array used as a practical learning resource.
The program has provided students with opportunities to gain work experience in Texas, Jamaica and within the College Sustainable Energy Applied Research Centre (SEARC).
Many graduates have continued into Bachelor's degree programs at universities in Canada and abroad.
Specialized laboratory facilities are available for training in building automation systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, and grid-connected solar electric systems.

Graduates from the Energy Systems Engineering Technician (ESET) program work in careers such as Renewable Energy System Designers, Clean Energy System Project Managers and Installers. Graduates also develop expertise in building energy management and building energy systems, leading to employment opportunities as Energy Managers and Energy Auditors.
The program addresses the growing financial and environmental costs of energy use. Graduates develop knowledge and skills to design and implement renewable energy systems, audit energy use in commercial and residential buildings, and make recommendations to reduce energy demand, emissions and cost.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including the following prerequisites:
