Set Up For Success Workshops

May 4 - 5, 2023

Library & Learning Services, in partnership with Student Experience, offers this series of workshops to prepare students for success by providing a foundation of proven skills and strategies that support development as a learner at Fleming.

Students attending this series may also qualify for Co-curricular Record (CCR) recognition. To request CCR recognition, students will be asked to complete a post-series request form. A link to the form will provided during each session.

Students are invited to attend any or all the workshops by clicking on the WebEx Event link associated with the workshop at the time of the session.

Learn about the methods and practices that will help you gain independence and confidence in your role as a self-directed learner. This workshop will cover:

  • How to set up your study space and understand the best habits for learning success
  • Tools and tips to improve your time management and organizational skills and practices
  • How to improve the retention and retrieval of information using effective study methods

Part Two:

Learn the many ways to access help from Tutoring, Learning Strategies, and the Library. This workshop will cover:

  • Selecting the right service to meet your learning needs
  • Finding and attending a drop-in session or workshop
  • Booking an appointment with your WC Online account
  • Accessing self-directed help-guides for math, writing, research, citations, study skills and more

This session will cover:

  • How to navigate a course in D2L
  • How to access a lecture, upload an assignment, and participate in a class discussion
  • Set up your weekly schedule
  • Where to find help for using technology applications
  • Online etiquette
Part Two: Using WebEx and MS Teams

This session will cover:

  • Basic Features in WebEx and MS Teams
  • Sharing content

Starting Strong with D2L and Term Planning

Part One: D2L: Your Learning Management System

Get familiar with D2L in this hands-on session. We’ll show you where to find your course content, how to upload an assignment, accessing lectures, discussions and more.

Part Two: D2L: Create Your Term Planner

Join us for another hands-on session where you will create an individualized Term Planner. You will leave this session with a helpful planning tool that will outline all your test dates, assignment deadlines and more.
