Webinar Wednesday Recap: Artificial Intelligence
Last week, we hosted our first Webinar Wednesday shining a spotlight on our Artificial Intelligence (AI) program! If you couldn’t join us virtually, don’t stress. Here are the highlights from the session, along with the full recording below to watch at your convenience.
Whether you’re passionate about technology, curious about machine learning, or exploring a new career, this recap will help you understand why Fleming College is an excellent place to begin your journey in AI or explore other options within our School of Business and Information Technology. Here’s some of the details our Program Coordinator of AI covered in the Webinar Wednesday session:
WHY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AT FLEMING COLLEGE?
AI continues to be one of the fastest-growing fields in the world, and the demand for skilled professionals is only increasing. In fact, Ontario alone is projecting more than 17,000 new AI jobs, highlighting the need for tech-savvy problem solvers across nearly every industry.
Fleming’s AI program was created to meet that demand. Students gain high-quality, industry-aligned skills that employers are looking for, combining technical foundations with hands-on learning through applied projects.
TOP 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS
- A Flexible Graduate Certificate with Multiple Pathways:
- There are many academic backgrounds and career experiences that can lead into the program. Students can complete a diploma or degree first, then join the AI Graduate Certificate at Fleming.
- Not sure if you have the right experience? Reach out and we’ll talk you through your options and help you move from interested to enrolled.
- AI is Much More Than Just ChatGPT:
- AI has been evolving for decades, but the rise of generative AI (like ChatGPT) has dramatically increased awareness and accelerated adoption across every sector. Today, AI is used in banks for fraud detection and mortgage approval, in healthcare for diagnosing diseases and predicting health risks, in engineering for optimization and automation, and in manufacturing for quality control and predictive maintenance.
- This means your career, as an AI graduate, isn’t limited to tech companies. Virtually every business and government organization now relies on AI, machine learning, and data analytics to support smarter, faster decision-making. Learning AI today positions you for a wide range of high-impact careers across a variety of industries.
- Hands-On Applied Learning with Industry Partners:
- Students in the AI program work directly with real-world clients, not just simulations.
- Hands-on learning begins in Semester 1, where students work with real-world datasets and problem scenarios across all courses—not just simulations. Every lab is designed to mirror practical challenges faced in business, healthcare, engineering, finance, and other industries.
- In Semester 2, students take this experience further through an AI Capstone Project, where they are matched with an industry partner and supported by a faculty mentor. They lead the full process—from scoping the problem and building models to delivering solutions and presenting results to the client. These projects often lead to professional connections, strong references, and résumé-ready portfolio pieces.
- Students may also collaborate with the Centre for Applied Machine Intelligence and Integration Technologies (CAMIIT), gaining exposure to cutting-edge tools, applied research, and industry partnerships that deepen their skills and insight
