Students find solutions to real-world challenges at the Fleming College Innovation and Technology Showcase

Published

Peterborough ON – (July 18, 2019) Student innovation and hands-on learning will be on display at the Fleming College Innovation and Technology Showcase on Thursday, July 25 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Hosted at the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC) at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus, the event is a showcase of experiential learning in action with students working to solve real-world challenges. Throughout the winter and spring, students from the School of Trades and Technology have worked with sponsors from industry and non-profit sectors to find innovative solutions to a technology-related problem.

“The Showcase provides students with real-world knowledge and support they need to become entrepreneurs, and we are very proud to highlight the innovative thinking students demonstrate to create their projects,” said Jason Jackson, Dean, School of Business, School of Trades and Technology. “Through these projects, students make valuable contributions to our local community and economy, while gaining real-world experience.”

Students gain academic credit and on-the-job experience by undertaking these supervised applied projects. At the same time, the project results provide new information, answer questions, contribute to planning and lay the groundwork for future innovations.

Projects will be judged with prizes awarded at the conclusion of the Showcase. Members of the public are invited to attend the event and view the projects, which will be on display from 2 to 5 p.m. in the KTTC, Sutherland Campus (599 Brealey Drive, Peterborough).
