Make a resolution for yourself this winter and take a look at what Fleming College has to offer within its School of Continuing Education and Skilled Trades. Fleming College has this week launched its Continuing Education calendar for winter 2009. There are more than 750 courses available, as well as a number of fast-track certificate programs allowing individuals to graduate quickly, career-ready.

New in ‘09

• Public Safety Communications, a full-time, fast-track certificate program will train students to become 911 dispatchers and operators.

• The full-time, fast-track Aircraft Interior Fundamentals certificate program trains students to refurbish aircraft interiors, a booming sector that offers local employment opportunities.

• The popularity of new courses in Digital Animation has led to a new Intermediate level course to be offered this winter in addition to the Basic level.

• A course on English as a Second Language in the work place is designed to assist new Canadians with their language skills on the job.

• The college will offer a new workshop on Feng Shui, the Chinese art of improving and enhancing your health and energy.

• Have a pet dog that’s not behaving? A four-hour workshop on Feb. 25 will feature canine behaviour expert Kerry Vinson.

• Avid campers can take part in a fun and informative workshop How to be a Happy Camper offered by outdoors expert and author Kevin Callan on Feb. 7.

Expanding your skills can help you move up the career ladder. Fleming College offers a number of courses in the areas of business, health and wellness, outdoor recreation, hospitality, human and community services, and skilled trades and technology. The college will also offer three courses in cooperation with OTEC, Ontario’s tourism and hospitality training and human resource organization – Business Communication for Managers, Service Excellence, and Team Excellence. There are also some fantastic and fun choices for leisure learning at Fleming College as well. Digital photography, ballroom dance, music, languages, cuisine, and outdoor recreation are all options for leisure learning. Over 55?For those around retirement age interested in learning something new the college offers a variety of computer courses for adults age 55 and up to get you started, or expand your skills in the world of technology. Browsing the Internet, Scanning and Using Pictures, as well as Computers I: the very basics of Microsoft Windows XP are all available. Learn from experienced instructors, with your peers, in a comfortable and relaxed setting. If you want some help planning for the next stage of your life, there are some great choices: Financial Retirement Planning, How to Invest and Manage Portfolios, and Estate Planning.
