PETERBOROUGH, ON – (October 22, 2026) – Fleming College will make history on Sunday, October 25 when the Fleming Phoenix host their first-ever Lacrosse Sixes tournament at the Phoenix Sports Field on Sutherland Campus in Peterborough. Featuring all four Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) member teams — Fleming, Durham, Humber, and Mohawk Colleges — the event marks the final day of the inaugural Lacrosse Sixes exhibition series, with the final pod and playoffs scheduled for November 1 in Hamilton.

The tournament kicks off at 11 a.m. when Fleming Phoenix takes the field against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Games continue throughout the day including a Phoenix matchup against the Humber Hawks at 2 p.m., before wrapping up with the Durham Lords vs Mohawk Mountaineers lacrosse game at 3 pm.

Sunday’s tournament gives the Fleming Phoenix lacrosse sixes team their first opportunity to play in front of a home crowd. Community members are invited to come out and show their support. Admission is free.

“This first season has been about laying the foundation for Phoenix lacrosse,” said Greg Jefford, Fleming College’s Director of Student Experience and Athletics. “Our student-athletes have grown their skills and gained valuable experience with every game, and hosting this tournament on our home field is a proud moment for the program. We welcome the community to join us in cheering them on.”

The introduction of the lacrosse sixes program reflects the College’s commitment to reconciliation, Indigenous learning, and creating opportunities for students to experience one of Canada’s national sports. Lacrosse sixes is a fast-paced, dynamic version of the sport that emphasizes speed, skill, and teamwork while remaining connected to the rich traditions and teachings that have shaped the game for generations. In honour of these traditions, the Phoenix will wear an Indigenous-inspired logo, designed by local artist Jared Tait, on their helmets and the tournament will open with an Indigenous drum and song performance by Josh Smoke.
