New Governor appointed to Fleming College Board

City of Kawartha Lakes ON – (May 7, 2014) – Fleming College has welcomed to its Board a new Governor from the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Mike Perry, Executive Director of the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team, was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council as a member of the Fleming College Board of Governors for a term that will run through to August 31, 2016. He attended his first Board meeting as a Governor on Wednesday, April 30.

Perry, a native of Fenelon Falls, is a lawyer and social worker by profession and recently co-chaired the 2013-14 United Way Campaign for the City of Kawartha Lakes. He has also been active in drafting the Haliburton/Kawartha Lakes Poverty Reduction Strategy in the areas of affordable housing and transportation.

Perry has served on many local community organizations, primarily in the areas of health and social services, the environment and affordable housing. He has worked with Fleming College students at the Frost Campus through the C-Links program and is a local community leader within Junior Achievement.

Perry also has a decade of past experience with the federal government and has taught at Carleton and Trent universities.  A recreational pilot, Perry is a member of the Canadian Forces Reserves. He and his wife Jill currently live on Lake Scugog with a nosey foxhound named Summer.

I look forward to learning more about post-secondary education as a Governor and working to help our local college students.”
