March Break Creative Courses for Kids, Youth & Adults
Looking for something creative and fun to do this March Break? The Haliburton School of Art + Design (HSAD) is offering exciting courses for kids, youth, and adults!
WEEK-LONG ART EXPERIENCES
Young artists (ages five to nine) can get their hands dirty and their creativity flowing in Kids Art Camp: Wild About Clay. Participants will explore three-dimensional art through a variety of hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab work as they create unique clay masterpieces. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, they will find natural objects to press into clay and sculpt their favourite animals. This engaging program encourages creativity, discovery, and the joy of making art.
Youth and teen artists can tap into their comedic flair in Youth/Teen: Young Comedians, where imagination takes centre stage. Participants will dive into playful improv games, collaborative comedy writing, and energetic performance activities designed to build confidence and spark endless laughter. This lively, encouraging environment helps young performers uncover their unique comedic voice while having a great time.
Teens and adults (ages 17 and up) can explore the striking beauty of Canadian winter through Painting the Winter Landscape. Participants will paint in real-time or work from photographs, drawing inspiration from Haliburton’s stunning scenery, including the Sculpture Forest. Guided by the techniques of historic and contemporary artists such as Tom Thomson, Lawren Harris, Doris McCarthy and Kim Dorland, participants will develop their own interpretations of the winter landscape. Whether painting outdoors or capturing the essence of the season from the warmth of the studio, this course offers an immersive experience in winter artistry.
ONE-DAY MARCH BREAK COURSES
Don’t want to commit to a full week? We have one-day Youth/Teen workshops running for those looking for something to do to change up their routine.
Aspiring printmakers can get hands-on in Youth/Teen: Intaglio Printing, a course that blends tradition with a creative twist. Participants will experiment with etching into plexiglass plates to produce striking prints, discovering how line, texture, and pressure come together to form expressive artworks. It’s the perfect opportunity for youth to explore a timeless medium while bringing their own ideas to life.
For those drawn to the world of digital creativity, we’re also offering Youth/Teen: Photoshop Warhol Portrait and Youth/Teen: VR Sculpting sessions. Whether reimagining portraits in bold pop-art style or sculpting in a fully immersive virtual space, participants will explore cutting-edge tools that encourage experimentation, innovation, and artistic exploration.
These courses run daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Haliburton Campus from March 16 to 20, 2026.
