Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Awards Bursary to Fleming Student

Fleming College Business Administration student Matthew Warren is the recipient of a $1,000 Business Leadership Bursary sponsored by the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented to Warren at the 8th Annual Peterborough Business Excellence Awards Gala held on Tuesday, October 18th held at the Trentwinds in Peterborough, Ontario.

“Thank you, I am very excited to receive this award,” expressed Matthew in his acceptance speech to hundreds of local Business Associates. “Fleming has given me a great educational experience, great friendships, and the skills and confidence I need to become a strong business leader in the future.”

In partnership with Fleming College, and as part of their mandate to encourage young business people, the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce presents the Business Leadership Bursary to recognize student excellence and foster responsible leadership and business prosperity for the future.

Academically, Matthew has maintained an overall GPA of 3.73, achieving final grades of over 90% in Business and Contract Law, International Trade, Accounting, Contemporary Management Skills, Importing, Computer Applications, Effective Problem Solving and Business Statistics. Matthew achieved a final grade of 100% in Negotiating Skills.

“Matthew has distinguished himself through strong work ethic, community involvement and academic achievement,” said School of Business Dean Jim Drennan. “He strives for excellence and fellow students highly respect him for his leadership qualities.”

Matthew Warren is enrolled in the three year Business Administration Program at Fleming College, he is currently in his fifth of six semesters. Matthew is a volunteer with the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life organization and donates as many hours as his schedule will permit. Matthew will graduate in the Spring 2012 and pursue career interests related to the banking industry and economic matters.

The Student Business Leadership Bursary was established on behalf of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce as a way to recognize exceptional business leadership potential in a post-secondary student. The Chamber awards an annual $1,000 bursary and a GPCC one-year Student Associate Membership to a Fleming student in their final year who demonstrates potential to be a leader in Business, academic excellence, and initiative beyond the boundaries of academics.
