Former Fleming College President Charles Pascal will be honoured February 10 for his commitment to public education.Mr. Pascal, who served as Fleming’s president from 1982 until 1987 will receive the 2008 Egerton Ryerson Award from People for Education. The award, handed out annually, recognizes dedication in public education.The award ceremony will take place at Massey College in Toronto. The evening will include a celebration of Mr. Pascal’s accomplishments. In addition to his time with the college Mr. Pascal has served as chair of the Education Quality and Accountability Office and as a provincial deputy minister, and is executive director of the Atkinson Charitable Foundation.Each year at convocation Fleming College recognizes a faculty member with the Charles E. Pascal Award for Excellence in Teaching. This is Fleming College’s highest award for teaching excellence and is named for Mr. Pascal in recognition of his leadership in championing great teaching and great teachers.People for Education is an independent parent-led organization working to support public education in Ontario’s English, French and Catholic schools.Located in Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton.
