Fleming Knights host men’s and high school summer basketball leagues

A great opportunity for weekly competitive play and a great chance for high school students to further their skills.

Peterborough, ON May 8, 2018– Fleming Knights will host summer basketball leagues for both men and high school aged players at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre.

The men’s league is for males aged 18 and over, while the high school league will be co-ed and players will range from grades 9 – 12.

The High School Basketball League will consist of eight weeks of skills training conducted by varsity coaches and players of the Fleming Knights basketball team. This league will provide players who are interested in taking their game to the next level the guidance and instruction to develop their individual skills and also their team skills. Each session will be two hours in length with the first hour being dedicated to developing performance and basketball skills and the following hour dedicated to league play with teams being created on grade and skill level.

The Men’s Summer Basketball League will consists of six teams who will play each other every Tuesday night from mid-June to the end of August. Each game will be officiated by two referees and stats will be kept for all participating players by scorekeepers.

The games will consist of 25 minute halves with a one minute half-time and with running time during the last minute of the second half. The season will end with awards presented to the season MVP, scoring champion, hustle player, finals MVP and the championship team.

Spots are limited and players must be registered with a completed payment in order to secure their spot. The cost is $125 + HST per person and registration takes place in person at the Fleming Recreation desk at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, or online at http://flemingknights.ca/mens-basketball-summer-league/ for the men’s league and http://flemingknights.ca/high-school-basketball-summer-league/ for the high school league.

High School Summer Basketball League will run May 31 – August 2 for grades 9 to 12 on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m.

The Men’s Summer Basketball League will run June 12 – August 21 as an adult league on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m.

“It’s great that we can provide these leagues as it makes it possible for us to connect with our city through athletics and give back to those who enjoy the game of basketball,” says Josh Williams, Fleming Knights Summer Program Coordinator and coaching staff for the Fleming Knights men’s and women’s basketball teams. “Our staff are excited to coordinate and facilitate for our youth and adult participants and, through our structure of our High School and Men’s League, we have been able to find future Knights during our initial two years of providing these leagues.”
