Fleming College to receive design award for Haliburton School of Art + Design rebrand

hsad-logo-rgb-300dpiHaliburton, ON (Oct. 21, 2016) – The Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) is recognizing the transformation and rebranding of Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art + Design (HSAD) with a prestigious design award.

Fleming College will receive an RGD In-House Design Award of Distinction at the Association’s upcoming DesignThinkers conference in Toronto on Nov. 4.

Formerly known as the Haliburton School of The Arts, Fleming College introduced the new name and brand last February to better reflect the blend of art, design and heritage programs offered within the School.

The addition of + Design denotes the School’s unique suite of integrated programs that fuse hands-on studio art practices with design studies.

“It looks elegant and minimal on its own as a logo, but can also be transformed into a pattern or a graphic image… I also love that despite its minimalism it still has personality and is personalized to the school by referencing the red doors. Lastly, the execution and typography are all tight. The typeface choice balances well with the heavy “H” graphic and feels appropriate for a design school,” said RGD award judge Sabrina Majeed.

The Fleming team responsible for the rebranding included HSAD Dean Sandra Dupret; Drew Van Parys, Executive Director of Marketing and Advancement; Graphic Designer Luke Despatie; and Marketing Consultant Lori Humphrey.

The RGD In-House Design Awards are for internal creative employees working within companies, associations, government and other organizations and are intended to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of in-house designers. RGD selected 42 winning projects from 240 submissions received from in-house designers from across Canada.
