Fleming College opens its doors to future students at spring Open House

Peterborough ON – (March 4, 2020) Fleming College builds bright and secure futures for students, creating education that produces graduates who thrive in an ever-changing labour market. Visit the spring Open House to explore all that Fleming has to offer and meet with faculty, staff and students to learn about how the College transforms communities through education and innovation.

The College will host its Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at its campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, Haliburton, Cobourg, and at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA) in Norwood. 

New this year, prospective students can win $2,500 towards their Fleming One Card by accepting their Fleming offer of admission. To be eligible, accept your full-time offer of admission from Fleming by midnight on March 7, 2020 and you will be automatically entered into the contest. For students who have not yet applied to Fleming, you can apply for free during Open House. Vouches will be provided to cover the $95 application fee to ontariocolleges.ca, in person only during Fleming Open House event hours, one voucher per person. 

The College will host tours of the campuses and residences as well as offer information sessions on Financial Aid Options, On-and-Off Campus Housing, and Transitioning to College for students with an IEP.

To showcase the hands-on learning that takes place at Fleming, many of the programs will provide live demonstrations of learning activities throughout the day, such as:

  • Sutherland Campus – culinary students will bake and share cookies with guests throughout the day, visitors can test their skills with the welding simulator in the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre, interact with our artificially intelligent and high fidelity mannequins in the health labs, and check out what the law and justice programs have to offer in the skills for justice scenario lab. 
  • Frost Campus – Arboriculture students will demonstrate tree climbing and invite guests to try out the experience for themselves. Blasting Techniques students will provide demos throughout the day, with the grade finale demo occurring at 1:45 p.m. Horizontal and Directional Drilling simulation will occur all day, and guests can check out the newly renovated GeoCentre.
  • Haliburton Campus – guests can watch students perform live demonstrations as they work in the art studio.
  • Pre-service Firefighter Education and training program in Norwood – Students applying for the Pre-service Firefighter Education and Training program are invited to visit the EOETA in Norwood (36 Industrial Dr.) where the program is now located. The EOETA has several established training environments including a burn tower, roof and door props, search and rescue maze, confined space prop, and new high-intensity propane training props. As part of Open House, faculty and current students will be at the EOETA to welcome visitors, provide tours of the facility and perform live demonstrations.
