Published

Over 150 guests braved the winter storm Wednesday night to take part in the Fleming College Foundation’s Feast of Dreams Gala –Travel the World, as the Sutherland Campus was transformed into an international tour with stops in France, England, Brazil, India, Korea, The Canary Islands, Spain and Canada.Guests were welcomed by Fleming College President Dr. Tony Tilly and greeted at each station by “tour guides” from the Hospitality Administration – Hotel and Resort program. Guests sampled an array of delectable offerings from chicken tikka masala and lobster newburg to an assortment of fresh French pastries prepared by faculty and students of the Culinary Management Program. Also, a special ceremony was held at the beginning of the evening to honour Dr. Brian Desbiens with the dedication of the Brian L. Desbiens Galleria and Technology Wing. Guests then participated in exciting live and silent auctions, enjoyed the music of the Donegal Fiddlers, and performers Amanda Middleton and Charleston Stella, all in an effort to raise funds to provide financial assistance for Fleming College students. The event grossed over $20,500. Net proceeds from the event will be matched through the provincial government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support Program and will go toward an endowed bursary for culinary students in financial need. The night would not have been such a success without the support of our many sponsors: Country 105/Energy 99.3, The Wolf/Kruz, Star 93.3/The Breeze, Nexicom, Canadian Uniform and Linen Services, Leaven, The Vincent Press, Colio Estate Wines, Sysco Food Services of Central Ontario and Rusland’s Peterborough Auction.  The event came together due to the very hard work of dedicated volunteers, the organizing committee, which included Co-Chairs Tina Johnston and Kim Garland, Laurie Campbell Leveck, Holly Richards, Chef Steven Benns, Chef David Hawey, Madame Sylvie Provost and Jim Todd, the Designing Women and over 120 Fleming College students in the culinary department as well as students in the Police Foundations and Hospitality Administration – Hotel & Resort programs. Also a big thank you to the many businesses and individuals who donated items for the auction, the guests, and many volunteers who helped to make the event a success!
