Fleming Checks In: Promoting Mental Health Awareness through Bell Let’s Talk Day

Published

Peterborough ON – (January 20, 2022) – Staff and students at Fleming College are once again participating in the Bell Let’s Talk initiative on Wednesday, January 26 promoting mental health awareness. The mental health of our students and staff is a priority for us at Fleming, and the need for those supports is greater now than ever.

The Counselling department along with faculty and students in the college’s community services programs are inviting students and employees to join in the conversation about mental health through several online initiatives:

  • Students and staff are encouraged to upload a photo and a message about what mental health means to them through Fleming’s Virtual Bell Let’s Talk photo booth.
  • Use the hashtag #BellLetsTalk and #FlemingChecksIn when sharing a picture on your social media channel for the chance to be featured on our page.
  • Need to check in? We are here for you. Click the “How are you?” button on Fleming College’s website for resources, modules and apps that promote personal and mental wellness.
  • Register for our Campus Health Series in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Branch (CMHAHKPR).
  • The Athletics Department plans to make some safe and socially distant house calls to interested athletes in the Peterborough and Lindsay area. Monday, January 24, between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., interested athletes will receive Bell Let’s Talk Swag and share what mental health means to them in support of the Bell Let’s Talk campaign.
  • Sutherland and Frost Campus Residence staff are holding a drop-in program (for current residents only*). If you are a current resident at Fleming’s Sutherland or Frost Campus, drop by the Residence Life Office the week of Bell Let’s Talk (January 24 – 26) to get some swag, check in, learn about campus resources, and more.
  • On Bell Let’s Talk Day, Bell will make a donation to mental health initiatives in Canada by contributing 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet, and social media video view. Join the conversation on our social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok and LinkedIn.
  • Go to the toolkit page and download the Bell Let’s Talk logos.
