Clark Pick wins Outstanding Educator Award
Fleming College’s Clark Pick, a professor of Robotics and Automation technology, has won the Outstanding Educator Award from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). Mr. Pick was selected to receive this prestigious award, which is handed out once every two years, for making a significant contribution to the training and education of engineering/applied science technicians and technologists. Several graduates nominated Mr. Pick for the award. "I think that this is a well-deserved honour for Clark," said John Sillberg, Academic Team Leader for the School of Technology and Skilled Trades at Fleming College. "He has provided quality education for technology students at Fleming for 20 years. The success of our students and graduates has always been Clark's main goal."Mr. Pick said he was surprised but honoured in being selected for the award."The best thing about teaching is working with the students and seeing them change into something successful," he said. A Fleming graduate himself, Mr. Pick teaches courses such as Automation Fundamentals, Embedded Microcontroller Interfacing and Advanced Robotics. Mr. Pick, who has taught at Fleming for 20 years, says he tries to ensure his students become "imagineers.""I tell my students, ‘Let your imagination run wild. Keep your ears open to potential problems or ideas.’ You can solve many problems by using existing technology in a new way."The Outstanding Educator Award will be presented at a special ceremony, yet to be announced, and an announcement of the award will be published in an upcoming edition of the association’s publication, The Ontario Technologist.
