Celebrating Fleming College’s 50th anniversary at Frost Campus
City of Kawartha Lakes, ON (Sept. 8, 2017) – Fleming College’s Frost Campus is inviting students, employees, alumni and the community to join in its 50th Anniversary Celebration, taking place on Friday, Sept. 29.
“Fleming is excited to host a celebration of our 50th anniversary at Frost Campus,” said Drew Van Parys, Executive Director of Advancement and Marketing. “It’s a way for us to commemorate this significant milestone, enhance student learning, and also give our thanks to the community for its long-standing support of the college. All community members are welcome and encouraged to join in the celebrations.”
The day will include two events:
- The 50th Anniversary Celebration will take place from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature a loggersports demonstration, a Tree Canada tree planting ceremony, a time capsule burial (to be opened in 25 years), live music and entertainment. All are welcome to take part. Please register here if you are planning to attend.
- Fleming’s Moveable Feast, a unique 100-mile dining experience, is a celebration of local food in support of student learning and the community. This event will take place at the campus following the 50th Anniversary Celebration, starting at 5 p.m. A tasting trail will allow guests to tour the campus while enjoying local appetizers, including an ‘edible wilds’ food station. The dinner will feature locally-sourced ingredients prepared by Chef Marty of Aramark. A silent and live auction will take place as well as beer tastings from Bobcaygeon Brewing Company. The Moveable Feast proceeds will support the GeoCentre Renovation Project at Fleming College’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences. Tickets are $50 and are available at frostcampusmoveablefeast.eventbrite.ca or call 1-866-353-6464 ext. 3028.
“At Frost Campus we strive to be a contributing member of the community. Hosting an event such as the Moveable Feast brings individuals together to experience a delicious, sustainable meal and allows us to share the many wonderful things happening here at the campus,” said Brett Goodwin, Dean of the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences and Principal of the Frost Campus.
The theme for the provincial 50th anniversary celebration is The Start of Something Amazing – a celebration of the start of the system five decades ago, and recognition of how college education marks the start of great career opportunities for growing numbers of students.
As part of the province-wide celebrations, Colleges Ontario is exhibiting an interactive mobile tour – a 42-foot trailer that commemorates the 50th anniversary of Ontario’s college system and the college’s evolution and success.
It will be at Frost Campus on Thursday, Sept. 28 and features a historical timeline of college milestones; a head-to-head quiz that tests what visitors know about colleges and pop culture history; examples of how colleges are promoting environmental stewardship and tackling climate change; displays that spotlight leading-edge innovations at colleges; and profiles of graduates’ successes in Canada and throughout the world. All are welcome to come out and visit the free exhibit.
