Amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fleming College continues to support our students, each other, and our communities. Watch this video of Fleming College President Maureen Adamson sharing the work Fleming College is doing, which includes the COVID-19 Fleming Student Emergency Fund and opening our residence buildings to frontline healthcare workers.

Each week, we are sharing a review of our Fleming community on the Fleming College website; please share your story on social media and tag #FlemingCollege. This week, we were pleased to announce Adam Folland as Frost Student Association (FSA) President and Zoe King as Fleming Student Administrative Council (SAC) President! By accepting these positions, Adam and Zoe are committed to using their community-minded focus and dedication to serve the Fleming community.

Fleming Student Administrative Council is doing amazing initiatives to help the Fleming community de-stress and have fun, including Facebook events and daily fitness classes. Fleming Counselling Services is hosting meditation sessions online to help find peace, positivity and productivity. And Fleming Personal Wellness Counsellors are available to chat with Fleming students at 705-749-5530 ext. 1440, Monday (1 – 4 p.m.), Wednesday (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.), and Friday (1 – 4 p.m.).

For #MentalHealthWeek, Fleming Counselling Services shared helpful techniques on social media, including the STOPP technique (Stop, Take a breath, Observe what you are feeling, Pull back to look at the bigger picture, Practice what works) and the Square Breathing technique (breathe in for four seconds, hold for four seconds, breathe out for four seconds, and hold for four seconds).

Fleming College has an incredibly caring community and we are proud of the amazing Fleming alumni working to help our communities. This includes Lori McQuaid, a Registered Practical Nurse at a long-term care facility, who remains optimistic despite the challenges she faces at work.

For #NationalTeachersDay, we celebrated the collaborative and creative work done by Fleming faculty; and we started the week with #MayThe4thBeWithYou Day, where we celebrated the strong force of support at Fleming College. It is because of this collaboration, creativity and support that Fleming College was able to transition most academic programs and student services online. Beginning the week of May 19, Fleming will offer five modified programs in the new online format. We are also seeking organizations to partner with Wireless Information Networking students as Applied Projects Sponsors.

As we continue to face challenges amidst this global pandemic, we are proud of the support our Fleming community is providing to our students, each other, and our communities. We will get through this together.
