Fleming College students, alumni, staff and faculty may be physically distanced, but the connection and support for one another is strong.

Fleming College proudly presented #TogetherAtHome, a music video in support of Fleming’s COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund and the Peterborough Musicians’ Benevolent Association (PMBA). The music video features the original song Lost Together (all rights reserved Blue Rodeo) and was produced by Melissa Payne and Michael Hurcomb, directed by Michael Hurcomb and co-produced by James McKenty. #TogetherAtHome features Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo and brings together some of the finest musicians in the Kawarthas region, and has been gaining a lot of attention on social media (including positive reactions and comments on Fleming College’s Facebook post).

Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, connection, communication and community are so important. To support faculty, Fleming’s Learning Design & Support Team created virtual chatrooms to provide guidance and feedback. This, in turns, helps faculty provide a stronger online learning experience for students. And to help find peace, positivity and productivity during this challenging time, Fleming Counselling is hosting meditation sessions online, led by Linda McFadden M.Ed., R.P., C.Ht.

To support our communities, Fleming College delivered donations to Haliburton Highlands Health Services, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ont. Items donated include: N95 masks, surgical/procedural masks, nitrile gloves, eye protection, and gowns and covers. The Fleming College community also cheered on front-line workers on our Instagram Story, participating in the #HonkForOurHeroes initiative by making some noise to show support and gratitude.

Vanessa Raaymakers is one of the many healthcare heroes we are cheering on. Vanessa is a Practical Nursing student at Fleming College who is making a difference at Extendicare Lakefield, where she works as a PSW caring for residents. We are so proud of Vanessa and all of our students, alumni, staff and faculty who are using their knowledge and skills to make a difference.

We are sharing a review of our Fleming community each week. Please share your story and tag #FlemingCollege. We will get through this together.
