Scholarships and Bursaries
Phyllis may Mann graduated with the Class of 1933 from Nicholls Hospital School of Nursing and received her qualification as a Registered Nurse that year. Until 1936, she worked as a Public Health Nurse with assignments in Peterborough and as far afield as Sault Ste. Marie.
Widowed in 1949, she worked for several years with the Community Nursing Registry in Peterborough, and then for 19 years as the Nurse-in-Charge, Associated Milk Foundation of Canada, Peterborough. In the latter capacity, she spoke extensively to school and community groups, hosted both radio and television programs, and published a cookbook locally which focused on good nutrition and homemaking.
In 1952/53, Phyllis was the President of the Nicholls Hospital and Peterborough Civic Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. During the 1960s and 70s, she was active in the Peterborough Chapter of the Arthritis Society. Her lifetime hobbies included reading and an active and accomplished interest in gardening.
This bursary is dedicated to her memory and her lifelong exemplifications of service to mankind, which is the highest ideal of the profession of nursing.
Awarded to a full-time domestic female student in the 2nd year of the Practical Nursing program who demonstrates financial need.
* Student must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post-secondary studies.
