Scholarships and Bursaries
Peterborough Horticultural Society (PHS) was established in 1861 and is one of the oldest members of the Ontario Horticultural Association. PHS offers monthly meetings with informative guest speakers workshops, bus trips, Spring and Fall plant sales and judged Flower Shows and a monthly newsletter. The most significant project, initiated in 2001 by the PHS and Master Gardeners, has been the Peterborough Garden Show, held annually over a 3-day period, drawing 8000 visitors, and 150 vendors.
PHS has contributed to a number of community beautification projects in and around Peterborough (revitalizing local parks, a school butterfly garden, local zoo, senior residences, as well as the Kawartha Tourism Visitor Information Centre). In 2001, the scholarship program was established. In addition to annually providing six awards of $1000 each to local students studying horticulture or related programs. In 2008, the PHS Scholarship Committee established a permanent award at Trent University. We have now established a permanent award for Fleming College.
Awarded to a full-time domestic student registered in Urban Forestry, Ecosystem Management Technician or Technology who has a GPA of 3.8 or higher and demonstrates financial need.
* Student must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post-secondary studies.
